The Circle Way at Exodus Transitional Community

Thank you to Exodus Transitional Community for sharing some reflections on their recent Circle Way training:

  • The timing of this session couldn’t have been more fitting. We gathered at the intersection of organizational change, the current political climate, and the ongoing raids on immigrant communities. In that context, Circle became more than a method but served as a container for self and community care. We witnessed how slowing down together can counter the culture of urgency that so often defines our work.

  • Participants responded with deep engagement and appreciation; the atmosphere was incredibly open, genuine, and filled with love. It was inspiring to see everyone embracing vulnerability and trusting one another, accepting each other’s flaws in such a supportive environment.

  • Though we were in a work setting, it felt intimate and transformative. We connected on a deeper level, learning so much about one another that we hadn’t known before.

  • As a senior director, I found the experience particularly enlightening: it allowed me to truly understand the feelings, thoughts, and emotions of my colleagues, fostering a nonjudgmental space for open dialogue.

What’s Next

  • The experience was so well received that senior leadership had requested to meet in Circle at their upcoming leadership retreat.

  • Our shared goal will be to embed Circle more intentionally into our regular meeting practices as part of the organization’s rhythm of reflection and collaboration.

“I believe it is essential for us to continue fostering this culture of openness and understanding. We need more leadership involvement in future Circle-way trainings to reinforce that we are all equal beyond our titles. It’s important that we recognize the dedication of our staff who come in each day, often facing their own challenges, yet still commit to their work. We must offer them a space where they feel heard and valued.” ~ Senior Director, ATI (Alternatives to Incarceration) at Exodus
